Well, we are back in the United States now. After a long day of sitting in airport after airport and then later on the runway, we finally made it back to Cincinnati after midnight. I think all of us were rather tired but excited about what we did and saw over the week and eager to tell our friends and family about our wonderful experience!
Overall, we visited four different schools: Santiago Primary School in Paquisis, Saber y Gracia, Hacienda Maria, and Santiago Sacatepequez. We arrived at the schools bearing gifts and eager to meet the students and learn more about their culture. It was exciting to see how welcomed the students and the staff made us feel. After the "work" of presenting gifts and speaking with the teachers and administration, we were all able to let loose and play with the children. We played basketball, soccer, simon says, and more soccer. We all made lots of friends and even more memories.
Personally, I thought the trip was an amazing experience! It opened my eyes to a culture I had never given a second thought to. Not only did I learn about what Co-Ed is doing to better the lives of the Guatemalan children, I also learned a lot about the country and its people.
